Issue affecting access to web applications on University PCs

You may experience a blank page or an issue logging in to University web applications (e.g. Blackboard), if you are using Internet Explorer 11 on University PCs running Windows 7. To resolve this, you can refresh the page (press <F5>) or use the Google Chrome web browser.


We are aware of some staff and students reporting an issue where they have already logged into one University web application (e.g. Blackboard) and when they move to another web application (e.g. Reflect Lecture capture), they are presented with a blank page or they are not logged in automatically.

This is only affecting Internet Explorer 11 on University PCs running Windows 7. It should not affect personal computers or University PCs that have been upgraded to Windows 10.


  • Press <F5> to reload the page

  • Use the additional web browser, Google Chrome

  • If you are a member of staff and remain on Windows 7, you can upgrade to Windows 10


The software bug was introduced in a recent Windows Update.  This is fixed in the next update due to be rolled out soon.
