Maintenance affecting University PCs, Personal Z: and Shared Departmental X: drives 5.30pm-11pm on Wednesday 30 August and Thursday 31 August 2017

You will not be able to login to a University PC or access the Personal Z: drive on either Wednesday 30 August or Thursday 31 August, between 5.30pm-11pm, due to important maintenance work to improve the performance and stability of key services ready for the new academic session.

What?

Essential maintenance is planned to replace and upgrade the University storage system, which is required to login to a University PC or access the Personal Z: drive and Shared Departmental X: drives.

The work will be carried out on two consecutive evenings between 5.30pm and 11pm on Wednesday 30 August 2017 and Thursday 31 August 2017. 

You should only be affected on one of the two evenings, as the work is carried out in phases. The departmental X: drive will be unavailable on Thursday evening 31 August.

Staff and Students with the first letter of their username in the range:

  • a-k will be affected on Wednesday 30 August 2017
  • l-z will be affected on Thursday 31 August 2017.

If you need to work during the maintenance period - Save your work regularly.

Why?

We are doing this work to improve the performance and stability of key services, in preparation for the increased student intake and the new academic session.

What will be unavailable?

You will not be able to use the following during the maintenance:

  • Login to a University PC, including all PCs used by students and staff
  • Access to Personal Z: drive and Shared Departmental X: drive folders 
  • Remote access to files using MyFiles.

What will be available?

All other IT services should be unaffected.

* Service should remain available for l-z users on Wednesday evening and a-k users on Thursday evening, however, service should be considered at risk. The X: drive should similarly be considered at risk on Wednesday evening. There is a small chance that the maintenance could overrun or an issue may occur overnight. Any issues will be resolved as soon as possible the following morning.
