Issue with IT Service Desk calls
Currently there is an issue with the phones to IT Service Desk
Work affecting all University Telephones – Monday 3 July 2017 6.00pm - 11.00pm
An important update needs to be applied to the campus telephones on Monday 3 July 2017 between 6.00pm and 11.00pm. At this time, all University telephones will be unavailable.
IT Service Desk staff meeting - Friday 30 June 2017 3.30pm - 4.30pm
A staff meeting is held every other Friday afternoon for an hour. You will not be able to contact the IT Service Desk during this time.
eduroam wifi security certificate update - Tuesday 27 June 2017
On Tuesday 27 June 2017 we will be updating the security certificate used when connecting to the University eduroam wifi network.
High Performance Computing maintenance – Unavailable Wednesday 28 June 2017 8am – 6pm
ALICE and SPECTRE will be unavailable on Wednesday 28 June 2017 between 8.00am and 6.00pm due to essential maintenance. You will not be able to use ALICE and SPECTRE during this time.
CANCELLED: Work affecting all University Telephones – Tuesday 20 June 2017 6.00pm - 11.00pm
The maintenance which is due to occur tonight, Tuesday 20 June 2017, has been cancelled due to necessary preparations for the maintenance not being able to be carried out. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
University response to UCL cyber-attack
We have been made aware of a ransomware attack on University College London which affected their personal and shared drives yesterday, Thursday 14 June 2017. We have not been affected by this attack, however, IT Services have been monitoring the situation and have taken measures to minimise risk.
Update: Disruption to University Computers
We have been experiencing a period of stability, therefore we have closed this incident and will continue to monitor performance.
Teaching software for academic year 2017-18
Student PCs are due to be upgraded to Windows 10 in the summer. Give us your feedback on programs that are essential for your teaching in the next academic year by Friday 30 June 2017.
Last order date for Computer equipment - Wednesday 28 June 2017
As the end of the financial year approaches, IT Services would like to remind staff, considering spend on computers, of the last order dates to guarantee delivery to site by 31 July 2017.
University response to global cyber attack
As reported in the national media a large number of organisations globally suffered a ransomware attack on Friday. This attack was focused on vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system.
University PC update schedule
A minor update is required to most University PCs over the next few months. During the update your screen may go blank or your icons may disappear temporarily. You may need to restart following any updates on a laptop. See the schedule for when your computer is due to be updated.
Issues affecting the delivery of emails to IT Help
We are currently investigating an issue that is causing some staff and students to receive undeliverable messages when sending an email to the IT Service Desk via ithelp@leicester.ac.uk. This is being dealt with as a high priority and we are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Updated: Issue with some Reflect lecture capture recordings
Following an issue which is affecting staff when they attempt to make a manual lecture capture recordings, a workaround is planned. Automatic recordings should not be affected and proceed as normal.
Do not download ‘OneClass’ Chrome Extension
The University have been made aware of a phishing email telling students and staff to download Google Chrome extension OneClass which steals their usernames and passwords. This extension is not supported by Blackboard or the University of Leicester. You should not install this extension.
Apple product delivery delays
The University has recently experienced delays whilst ordering Apple products from the selected supplier. IT Services and the Procurement Unit have now selected another reseller.
Network Maintenance throughout February and March
Important maintenance is required to the University network which began on Tuesday 14 February 2017 and will continue throughout February and March. You may notice brief interruptions to the network and wifi (e.g. access to the Internet) during 7.00am and 9.00am in University buildings on Tuesday mornings.
