EU referendum result: Incoming or outgoing staff currently undertaking a teaching or training exchange (or are considering one for 2017/8 or 2018/9) under the Erasmus+ programme are not affected by the UK’s decision to leave the European Union. For the latest information, please visit:

If you work for another European university and are interested in an Erasmus Staff exchange (teaching or training) at the University of Leicester, then the following information should help you in applying for an exchange with us. If you have any questions about coming to do a staff exchange at Leicester, feel free to contact us at

If you are a University of Leicester Staff, please visit our Outgoing Erasmus staff pages (log in required).

1. Expression of Interest

First identify the department or staff member you would like to have an exchange with. Call or email the relevant office, including a CV, to show your area of expertise and how an exchange would benefit both universities.

You can find staff and office contact details through the pages below:

University of Leicester receives many more requests for staff exchange than can be undertaken. Please be flexible about the travel dates and about the length of your stay.

2. Confirmation

The department will consider how the visit fits with their plan of work and academic timetables. If the department is happy to host you and you have found a suitable time, the department will need to work with the Institutional Erasmus Coordinator in Leicester to sign the Erasmus bilateral agreement.

The bilateral agreement must be signed by both institutions before the exchange commences.

3. Preparation

Check with your home university which documents they will need to verify your exchange. These can include a teaching plan, expenses sheets, or a mobility agreement - just to name a few! Work with your host department in Leicester on the teaching or training programme.

Finalise your travel dates with your departmental contact. Visiting staff usually make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation. The University of Leicester has does have accommodation available for visiting staff, our College Court Hotel.

4. Your visit

We hope this will be enjoyable as well as challenging. You should spend the majority of your time teaching or training in the host department. A visit to the International Office is not mandatory, however the team is available to sign any documentation you need. Please email us at to set up a meeting if needed.

5. After your visit

Submit any required travel expenses and any final reports to your sending university.

Don't forget to make further contact with your host department, to offer their staff the chance to visit you in return!
