Compassionate Leave

From time to time, the University, at its discretion, may grant members of staff compassionate leave, with or without pay, where the circumstances are such as to warrant such action.

Staff may apply for paid or unpaid compassionate leave if they need to be absent from work in circumstances not specifically covered for in the University’s policies on areas such as Sickness, Maternity, Paternity, Adoption, Academic Study or Annual Leave.  Usually, this would be for cases of bereavement or to deal with a serious family illness.

How to Apply

Members of staff should consult their their Head of Department/Division for advice on the application of compassionate leave arrangements.

Further advice can be obtained by contacting HR, if required.
