About HR

We work with colleagues on an institutional, college, departmental/divisional and individual basis.  In all that we do, we are motivated by the goal of helping the University to achieve its human resources objectives.  These aims are captured within the HR Strategy.

We provide advice and guidance for University managers and staff on all aspects of employment including recruitment, development, reward and managing performance.

We are also responsible for maintaining professional relationships with the Trade Unions recognised by the University (Unite, UCU and Unison) and have adopted a partnership approach to working with them.

The Service is led by a Director and a Head of HR Operations and the main delivery elements of the Division are as follows:

  • Business Partnering – the HR Business Partners act as an interface between our customers (Colleges, Departments and Divisions) and HR.  They focus particularly on organisational design and resource planning, and the management of people-focused projects within their client groups.
  • HR Operations – the teams in this area deliver support and services for all operational aspects of HR.  The teams consist of subject experts, each of which specialise in a particular activity covering everything from recruitment through to the design of policies, which meet legislative and management requirements.  The teams are managed by the Head of HR Operations.
  • HR Support – to support these activities, we have a team of excellent administrators who create and maintain accurate documentation and computer records, deal with contract and pay changes and handle enquiries from managers, staff and the general public.
