Conduct for the Media

The University of Leicester Press Office welcomes journalists to the campus subject to advance notification via pressoffice@le.ac.uk or 0116 252 2415. The following guidelines and policies are provided to ensure that the University’s daily activities are not disrupted by journalists and to assist media with performing their functions.

Conduct on campus

The University of Leicester will be as helpful as possible to journalists seeking access to campus whilst maintaining the privacy expectation of students and staff members. Journalists do not have a right to access the site without permission from the Press Office. We ask journalists to respect the rights of students and staff to decline to be interviewed, photographed or filmed and not interrupt the University activities. No filming, interviews and taking photos are allowed inside any buildings without permission from the Press Office and the academic lead.

Interviewing

Students and staff reserve the right to decide whether to be interviewed.

We do not release information on any students to the press without the consent of that student. We forward requests from journalists to students, leaving it to them to decide whether they want to participate.

Staff contact information is available on the relevant Departmental or Office website. If you can’t find who you’re looking for, please contact the Press Office or view our Research Expertise guide.

For interviews with the Students’ Union staff members, and access to the Union, please contact the Union directly at hello@leicesterunion.com or 0116 223 1148.

Attending events

Some events are for members of the University only. Journalists may attend events that are open to the public but should check prior to attending if registration is required. Use of any recording/filming devices is prohibited subject to the consent of the Press Office and academic lead/event organiser. For events requiring security measures, journalists who have not registered in advance may not be permitted entry at the time of the event.

Filming and photography

Journalists should inform the Press Office if they wish to film on campus eg the exterior of buildings.  Prior permission is required for interior filming and photography from the Press Office and the academic lead within that building.

Journalists must respect the rights of students and staff to decline to be filmed or photographed.

Additional authorisation may be required depending upon the request.

Parking on campus

The University parking is very limited. Please contact the Press Office with your requirements and be prepared to submit your request via email detailing how many vehicles you are bringing on campus; the time and duration.
