Maintenance Fault Reporting

Contact the Maintenance help desk for all building faults; problems with heating, lighting, toilets, electrics, window fittings, doors, shelving.

The ECS Service desk operates between 8:30 - 16:30  Mondays to Fridays. For all maintenance requests and repairs please phone 2319 email us at In an emergency (water leak, smell of gas, major power outage) please phone us as phone calls are prioritised and all out-of-hours calls are redirected to our 24/7 Security Team.

When calling please be ready to tell the help desk:

  • Your name
  • Your contact details
  • The exact location of the fault, building, floor, room number.
  • A brief description of the fault or request.

Please note because we have to liaise with departments before sending a craftsman to repair a fault, this system is restricted to staff.  Students noticing faults should report to their departmental office.  Students in University accommodation should follow the instructions on the accommodation page.

Works Prioritisation

Routine maintenance requests are logged on the date the request is received and join a works queue, we operate a first in, first out system.    Because we are unable to predict the volume of works requests and also because of the need to prioritise emergency works we are not normally able to give exact dates for routine works or guarantee that we can meet departmental deadlines.

Fault Reporting From Leicester Hospital Sites

All maintenance faults at hospital sites should now be reported through the help desk.  The help desk will log the call and contact the NHS facilities provider.  Requests for new works should be made using the Estates request for new works process.


Please phone us on 2319 or 5851 for all emergencies, please do not use email.  For emergencies occurring after 4:30 pm or at weekends/holidays please dial 888. Emergencies include: smell of gas, persons stuck in lifts, leaks (other than minor leaks), power failures.

If a person is trapped in a lift, please make no attempt to evacuate them as this is very dangerous.  Please call maintenance on 2319 or security on 888
