Refurbishment of 107-111 Princess Road East

Newly refurbished 107-111 Princess Road East

Our teams have spent the past 8 weeks refurbishing 107-111 Princess Road East inside and out to create a new home for the School of Media, Communication and Sociology, bringing colleagues from central campus close to those located at Bankfield House on New Walk just across the road.  107-111 Princess Road East is a  handsome collection of Edwardian buildings constructed in 1910 and the refurbishment has been sensitively conducted to preserve the original features.  This includes: replacing the original gables, repointing the tall chimneys, repainting the external window frames and replacing all the rotten ones with bespoke timber window fittings, restoring the original Minton tiled floor, retaining the original glazing in the front doors.  The interior of the building has been redecorated and fitted with new carpets, blinds and furniture and the original fire places blocked but retained.  In addition to the office and social space for staff and students there are 5 dedicated teaching/seminar rooms in the building.
