Congratulations to Mark Heggs our Clerk of Works (Buildings) who after two years hard study by distance learning has been awarded an MSc in Building Surverying from the University of Northumbria (a course accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).  Mark has great enthusiasm and passion for his subject and thoroughly enjoyed his course.

Mark is already a fully qualified Building Control Surveyor (by local authority apprenticeship) and as Clerk of Works (Buildings) he is responsible for inspecting the workmanship, quality and safety of all of our University's construction works.  Mark reports on any defects and makes sure that they are dealt with before any project can be handed over from the contractor to our Estates and Campus Services Teams to prepare the new or refurbished building for users.  Mark has already won several awards since he has been working for us including a national 'Building on Quality Award' in November 2011 for his work on the Percy Gee Refurbishment Project.
