Lecture theatre sheds light on energy savings

The RKCSB Lecture Theatre refurbishment has had a lighting upgrade that has, not only made it much easier for students to see their notes, but also saved energy.

As the University strives to save energy in all its days to day operations, the RKCSB Lecture Theatre refurbishment has had a lighting upgrade that has, not only made it much easier for students to see their notes, but also saved energy.

The old lighting system at RKCSB Lecture Theatre comprised of 25 dimmable luminaires, which each took 220 watts giving a total of 5,500 watts. Lecturers also needed to use very large wall mounted spotlights when videoing procedures.

However, the new bespoke LED lighting system has made a vast improvement to the quality of light levels and the supplementary lighting is no longer needed. The 25 new LED luminaires are 63 watts each giving a total load of 1,575 watts. Hence an energy savings of 3,925 watts is achieved.
