Escape Room Challenge: student designers and players wanted!

How would you like to not just play an escape room, but also then go on to learn about how they are made, and design your own sustainability themed escape room– and maybe run it as a real room for others to solve?

Escape room workshopEscape Rooms have become hugely popular as a group activity: with teams working together to solve puzzles and open safes and locked doors in order to escape a room within an hour. They are great for testing and developing problem solving, teamwork and many other skills, and also great fun.

Open to all University of Leicester students, this is an exciting opportunity for you to learn skills in designing your own escape room, and - if your room is selected by a panel of judges - to run your room at an international conference in Leicester this July!

You can sign up as a group of friends, or as an individual (we'll connect you to others to form a team). You can decide your own theme for the room, but it needs to feature something from the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, so you'll also be helping to educate your players!

You'll need to:

  • Be available to attend a (free) escape room experience on the afternoon of March 14th or March 22nd
  • Work as a team to create your escape room over March, April and May (we estimate 15-20 hours activity in total spread over those three months).

In return, we'll provide you with:

  • A free professional escape room game
  • A puzzle design workshop, where you'll learn game design techniques
  • A room on campus, and a set of locks/boxes/safes etc. where you can create and test your room
  • You'll gain experience that you can put towards your Leicester Award or Leicester Award Gold
  • If you are selected, you'll also get free travel and a free place to the July Playful Learning Conference

Sign up before Tuesday 12th March to get involved!
