Earth Hour 2019

Leicester is joining millions around the world to turn off the lights and speak up about why nature matters.

On Saturday 30th March at 8.30pm millions of people, businesses and landmarks will set aside an hour to host events, switch off their lights and make noise for the Earth Hour movement.

Just as Leicester celebrates our diversity, Earth Hour celebrates the diversity of life on Earth so please celebrate with us.

This weekend, the University of Leicester will power down our heating and lighting to reduce our carbon emissions and show our commitment to environmental sustainability.

We are asking our staff and students to ensure they switch off unnecessary appliances and lighting before they leave on Friday and in their homes from 8.30 - 9.30pm on Saturday.

Last year, a group of students ran a switch off project in the Maurice Shock Building and over 6 hours saved enough energy to power an oven for 3 1/2 days!
