Sid's SDG of the Day - Global Goals Week
Across the campus, there are fantastic initiatives, projects, activities and research going on relating to the SDGs, so Global Goals Week was the perfect opportunity to showcase what the university has to offer.

For example, for the first day of Global Goals Week, Sid wrote about SDG12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by talking about the lively debate from the Global Goals, Local Action student conference in Exit Week - “Should the University of Leicester be plastic-free?”. You might have expected the outcome to be YES, ban plastics and become plastic-free... however that wasn’t the case and we had the science to prove it! It was decided that the problem was the mass consumerism attitude of today’s society; people don’t value plastics enough. The key to fighting the “plastics problem” is better education and to examine and improve the disposal of plastics, e.g. reduce single-use plastics, reverse vending.
Other topics from the week included the forest garden at the back of FJB lawn created by a student last year (SDG15 Life on Land), the Student Switch off event that found that by switching lights off in the MSB the university could save £17,250 a year (SDG7 Clean and Affordable Energy) and the Student Sustainability Working Group (SSWG) which provides a platform for students to have their voice heard about sustainability issues (SDG17 Partnerships for the Goals).
