The University of Leicester is stepping up to join Leicester Council with their annual Bioblitz and we need your support

Knighton Park

Palmerston Way,

Leicester Friday 12th – Saturday 13th May 2017

The UoL have been involved in previous BioBlitz events at various levels from offering specialist help with surveys and identification of species, running activities/experiments with the public, providing student volunteers to help with tasks and publicising/promoting the event on websites/newsletters.

This year the Council are working closely in partnership with a number of organisations to promote the event. These include Knighton Wild, The Conservation Volunteers, Naturespot, Soar Catchment Partnership and invite the University to take part once again.

The University will be there in an official capacity on Saturday 13th with a big gazebo and poster boards to display University activity to the public.

If you're a student, you can:

  • Come down on either day to take part in the specialist walks e.g. amphibian and bat, conduct sample studies with us help with stewarding activities
  • Submit a poster on a special wildlife-related dissertation, formal or informal project you have been doing. We welcome all stages and levels of research!
  • Get ideas for future projects and dissertations by talking to experts in their field

If you're an academic, you can:

  • Advertise the event to colleagues and students
  • Submit an example of your own work for display using language that encourages involvement and understanding from various backgrounds
  • Help lead or support a specialist event, talk or walk on your subject area

If you're a staff member, you can:

  • Come down and bring your family with you to enjoy some sunny weather and learn more about local wildlife
  • Support as a citizen scientist in your own field of interest
  • Take lots of photos and tell everyone about it!

Please contact Sarah Roberts if you are interested in getting involved and your details will be passed onto the Working Group to organise.

Your help and support with this event is very much appreciated
