A day to reward volunteers, relax and have some well-deserved fun

Kick back and relax

On the 4th June 2015, Brookfield Campus hosted the first joint Environment Team and Hungry for Change Sustainability Festival to reward volunteers for all their hard work done in 2014/15.

It’s been a big year for the Environmental Action Society who only became an official group in November 2014, while the food-growing plot run by Hungry for Change is bursting with produce and has never looked better! Everyone felt that it was important that students knew that the effort they’ve put in this year was appreciated and the Sustainability Festival seemed like a great way to say “Thanks” and “Well done”.

The main attraction to the event was the free BBQ providing meat, vegetarian and vegan options, as well as Bubble Football loaned out by Let’s Do Leicester. Other attractions included face painting, a paddling pool, a group quiz and a charity raffle organised to help support the Leicester Wildlife Hospital. Contributed to by both staff and students, £126 was raised to the delight of the team down in Kibworth who stated it will help buy specialist food and pay veterinary bills.

The day turned out to be spectacularly sunny with plenty of volunteers to help set-up and then enjoy the festivities of the day. Certain members deserved special mention for the dedication they had shown the projects and goodie bags with gardening gloves, wildflowers seeds and tasty nibbles were given out.

A big thanks to Facetastic for making sure we all looked amazing and photos of the day can be found on the Environment Team Facebook page.
