Second nest-box conservation scheme completed to help urban peregrines

Following on from the work with the Leicester City Council and Leicester Ornithological Society on the Swift Box Project, the University has just finished installing two new nest boxes for peregrines on campus buildings. The story was covered by BBC East Midland Today and is featured on the BBC webpage - though the University remains unnamed for protection of the nest sites.

These alternative sites give peregrines a wider choice to raise their chicks after previous city locations proved to be unsuitable when eggs were stolen by collectors. Urban peregrines are completely at home in the city and it is hoped that they will be attracted to this prime piece of accommodation.
