A programme of interactive seminar-style sessions, designed to enrich and deepen understanding of the social, historical and theatrical contexts that shaped Shakespeare's writing in The Tempest and Measure for Measure.
Texts covered: The Tempest and Measure for Measure
The day is designed to suit the needs of students working towards examinations and will address the following assessment objectives:
- helping students appreciate the relation of their play to Shakespeare’s other work and to the theatre of his day;
- the influence upon texts of cultural, historical and other contexts;
- different critical interpretations and the importance of context;
- the contribution of directors, designers and performers to the theatrical experience;
- how characters and ideas are conveyed through theatrical presentation.
