Four reasons to join the EA:
  • Our members help to further the knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the English language around the globe, promoting its literatures, and encourage good practice in its teaching and learning at all levels.
  • The EA’s ambition is for fuller recognition of English as an essential element in education and in the community at large. In joining the English Association you will join others who are passionate about English and committed to its successful use, spoken and written.
  • Your voice will be added to debates and discussions – both national and international – that encourage the study of English language and literature.
  • You’ll have access to cutting-edge research through our exclusive member-only publications, including:

English 4-11: Supporting literacy in the primary classroom

The Use of English: The longest-standing of journals for English teachers in schools and colleges

English: Scholarly essays and reviews on all periods of literary history alongside new work by contemporary poets

Essays & Studies: Covering a wide range of subjects and authors, from the medieval to the modern

The Year's Work in English Studies: The qualitative narrative bibliographical review of scholarly work on English language and on literatures written in English

The Year's Work in Critical and Cultural Theory: A companion volume to The Year's Work in English Studies, it provides a narrative bibliography of work in the field of critical and cultural theory, recording significant debates and issues of interest in a broad field of research in the humanities and social sciences.

English at the Interface: A monograph series which explores English Studies at the interface with other languages, cultures, professions and disciplines from the medieval period to the present day.

2020 AGM Update

Posted by boo11 at Apr 15, 2020 03:43 PM |

2020 AGM banner including image of Joseph Coelho, Sophie Collins and English 4-11 Picture Book awards.

The EA team is working hard to keep our staff, colleagues, and communities safe. Therefore we've decided to limit the risk caused by travelling and gathering in large groups by moving our Awards Ceremony and AGM to Wednesday, 25 November 2020. We'll be in the same beautiful location, with the same fantastic events, including a keynote speech from poet and playwright Joseph Coelho.
We look forward to seeing you there and (hopefully) marking the end of this difficult and challenging time. Please book your place now here.

Visit our AGM page for more information.
