Thinking Big: New Ambitions for English and the Humanities

18-19th January 2018 - Senate House, London

The Institute of English Studies in partnership with the School of English, Newcastle University is pleased to announce Thinking Big: New Ambitions for English and the Humanities

Humanities research is developing at a new scale and in new directions, requiring us to ‘think bigger’ (and differently) than before. How is English as a discipline adapting to these changes?

This two-day conference explores changes in English as a discipline, focussing on five strands: partnership working, public engagement, interdisciplinarity, digital innovation, and the international context for humanities research. Convenors for each strand include Professor Dinah Birch (Liverpool), Professor Sarah Churchwell (School of Advanced Study), Professor Rick Rylance (School of Advanced Study), Professor Martin Eve (Birkbeck), and Professor Lyndsey Stonebridge (UEA).

The conference will provide ample time for provocation, discussion, and feedback. To learn more and to register, follow this link
