We are extremely pleased to announce a new annual Fellows' Award to be presented to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the broad field of English Studies in the period January 2020 to April 2021. The award will be announced at the English Association’s Annual General Meeting on 19 May 2021. The successful nominee will receive a free one-year subscription to an English Association’s journal of their choice, and their profile and work will feature in the Summer 2021 edition of the English Association Newsletter. Nominees do not have to already be a Fellow of the English Association to be eligible. If the successful nominee is already a Fellow of the EA, their membership fee will be waived for one year.

To this end, we would like to invite nominations for the first Fellows Award. The deadline for nominations to be sent to awards@englishassociation.ac.uk is 23 April. Nominations should take the form of a letter to the English Association’s Fellowship Committee. The letter should be no longer than 500 words and it should clearly demonstrate the nominee’s exceptional contribution to English Studies in one or more of the following five areas.

  • Advocacy for English Studies in the public sphere
  • Organizing an impactful public event or conference
  • Establishing or developing an English-related network
  • Evidence of outstanding student or pupil support
  • Working locally or nationally to increase access to English language, literature and/or creative writing

We are pleased to receive nominations of existing English Association Fellows. We are also keen to generate nominees well beyond the EA Fellowship, especially nominations that recognize the contributions of teachers, academics and practitioners in the early stages of their career. We actively seek to encourage diversity in nominations and we will observe the English Association’s commitment to equalities in deciding on the award. Please note we cannot accept nominations from individuals where there is an obvious conflict of interest.
