New Aspects of A Level English

Presentations, resources and useful links now uploaded

Saturday 3 October, 2015 at Senate House, University of London, 10.00 - 4.00

The word inspire superimposed on a globe made up of lettersThe reform of Key Stage 5 English has been a protracted and at times frustrating business. Doubtless the newly accredited specifications will not have satisfied everyone’s expectations, yet there is plenty in them to engage and inspire sixth-form students and teachers alike. Organised by our University Admissions and Transition Group, this event aims to bring together colleagues from across the secondary and higher education sectors and will cover both English language and English literature topics. With speakers drawn from the A-level and university teaching communities, the day promises to inform, excite and inspire.

The day will include:

  • subject experts from HE speaking on Shakespeare, post-2000 literature, integrated language and literature approaches
  • teacher-led sharing of strategies for making the most of the new qualifications
  • the opportunity to discuss aspects of the new specifications with representatives from awarding organizations
  • time for informal discussion between colleagues working with sixth-form and undergraduate students
