Module aims

  • Develop your range of vocabulary, including collocations, phrasal verbs and fixed expressions.
  • Improve the range and accuracy of your grammar.
  • Write a range of text types, such as letters, articles, essays and reviews.
  • Improve reading and listening skills to understand main ideas, detail, purpose and attitude.
  • Develop accuracy and fluency in speaking, and improve pronunciation.
  • Prepare for the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) exam by practising exam tasks.

Students are required to buy a course book for this module.
Students may take the CAE exam at the ELTU, but this is optional, and an exam fee must be paid.

Who is this module for?

  • This module is open to all Erasmus and Study Abroad students for university credits.
  • Students are expected to have an advanced level of English: CEFR C1.

About the CAE exam

The Cambridge Advanced English exam is a globally-recognised qualification offered by Cambridge English Language Assessment, part of the University of Cambridge. Students who pass the exam will receive a certificate which can be used as proof of their English level, for example when applying for a job.

Students who pass the exam with grade B or grade C will receive a certificate to prove that their level is C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Students who pass with grade A will receive a certificate to prove that their level is C2 in the CEFR, the highest level.
