  • This is a closed group, and will run with between 6-12 students.
  • It will run at the same time, day, location each week, and with the same 2 facilitators (from the Counselling & Wellbeing Team).
  • It is not a 'Therapy' group, it is aimed to help support you and give some Cognitive Behavioural tools and techniques that are evidenced based to help in the assistance of mild to moderate symptoms of stress.
  • If you would like to have a look at what CBT is please follow the link:

Session 1: What is stress? Goals for sessions, your stress container
Session 2: Fight/flight, activity monitoring, breathing
Session 3: Unhelpful thinking habits/progressive muscle relaxation
Session 4: Worry/mindfulness
Session 5: Thought challenge/decatastrophising/mindfulness
Session 6: Review of goals/maintaining wellness

Personal requirements:

  • You have to be willing to engage with the session content.  You will not be pushed to give personal examples, details or actively participate if you don't want to, however the more you participate the more you will get out of it.
  • There will be weekly 'in between session' tasks to complete and tools to practise, and each week builds upon the previous week, so ability to attend of all 6 sessions is required.
  • The group will ensure all participants sign up to and adhere to confidentiality, and we will discuss group rules each session, in order that people feel safe to attend. Benefits of attending group sessions can be to lessen any perceived stigma, to realise one is not alone, and to build support structures.
  • Prompt attendance is required, as there is lots to get through each session, if you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we request you do not disturb the group, as you will not be admitted. Please refer to our attendance policy, which can found on our website.
  • You will be requested to complete CORE 10 measures each week and feedback your experience of the group in order that we can evaluate it.
