Caring for the environment

The University of Leicester is deeply committed to caring for, and minimising its impact on, the environment.

The University has developed an Environmental Sustainability Policy which sets out our commitment to the environment. Amongst other things, the University is actively reducing its carbon footprint and water consumption; improving its levels of recycling waste materials; implementing a green travel plan; minimising the environmental impact of building works; and integrating principles of environmental sustainability in all of its processes and practices.

At Leicester Conferences, we endeavour to source food locally where possible, in order to minimise the environmental impact of our purchasing. We also ensure that animal welfare standards are followed for any animal produce purchased. We have Red Tractor assurance and are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council. We are also part of the City of Leicester's Food Charter.

Leicester Conferences uses electric vehicles to make food and housekeeping deliveries, and in the collection of refuse. Our flagship venue, Stamford Court, has a living roof and wind catchers, which were installed when the venue was refurbished in 2012.
