Applying for accommodation? Get answers to your questions below. If you need more information or we haven't answered your question, please get in touch.

I need to apply, where do I start?

Head online to our dedicated application portal, rooms.le.ac.uk, and select ‘Search Accommodation’ on the top left of the screen. You’ll be able to browse all of the rooms we have available as well as viewing 360° tours before you make an accommodation account and apply.

Remember, you can make up to 6 choices to help us to offer you the best room we have available for you!

 

Will I be guaranteed a room when I make my application?

Any new undergraduate student who applies for university accommodation before 1st September is guaranteed to have a room with us for the academic year!

 

What contract lengths are available?

We offer standard contract lengths of 39 weeks if you stay within The Village, or 42 and 44 weeks if you are staying within The City. For applicants studying Medicine or international students, we offer an additional week to the standard contract lengths. Your contract will cover the length of time you will need to be at the university.

 

What if I don’t like my offer?

We would always encourage you to call us on +44 (0)116 252 2428 or email accommodation@le.ac.uk before you decline your offer so that we can talk you through everything we still have available. It’s always better for us to change your current offer than it is for you to have to make a new application and end up back at the bottom of the waiting list.

I don’t know if my choices are still available

Even if you know your first choice probably won't be available, still put it as your first choice. Our availability changes constantly as others change their plans and we might be able to make you the offer you want or something close to it. We’d always love to offer you the room that’s best for you and this will help us to better understand what it is you want.

After that, try adding one or two options with more availability that, whilst they wouldn’t be your first choice, you wouldn’t be disappointed with. You can see the total numbers of each room type on our website rooms.le.ac.uk.

 

I can’t afford to pay the £250 prepayment straight away

If you’re having trouble with this, get in touch with the Fees Office at feesandincome@le.ac.uk. They’ll be able to talk through your current situation and, if needed, allow for the offer to be accepted on the condition that the £250 prepayment is paid after your first student loan comes in.

Remember, you have five days after receiving your offer to respond before your offer is withdrawn. If you need extra time to contact fees and income, just send us an email at accommodation@le.ac.uk and we might be able to extend your deadline.

 

When can I apply for my accommodation?

The sooner you make your application, the more likely you are to get your first choices. We allocate rooms on a first come first serve basis. When you can apply depends on your course offer status, take a look at our handy table below to see when you can apply.

Clearing You can apply for accommodation after exam results day, you will need to call admissions first and receive a course offer before contacting us to arrange accommodation. You may have to wait a couple of hours for your details to pass to the accommodation system once you've got your course offer confirmation.


How many choices do I get?

First year students will need to select a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 choices of accommodation. These will be in preference order so that we can offer you your highest available preference.

 

Can I visit to view the rooms before I apply?

Yes! We have a few open days throughout the year where you can come down and see the halls of residence, rooms and social spaces.

I’ll be under 18 when I start at university, will this affect my stay?

It’s quite common that students now start university before the age of 18. If this applies to you, there are a few things to be aware of about how this will affect your stay.

As per the University’s policy on under 18 residents, anyone staying with us before reaching the age of 18 is normally allocated to an Ensuite room with a private bathroom in a single-sex flat. Ensuite rooms are typically more expensive than their shared bathroom counterparts so you should consider this cost. If you would struggle with this cost, we would encourage you to contact the Student Welfare Service on +44 (0)116 252 2448. You will need to fill out some forms and review the policies with the Student Welfare Service here.

I have a disability, medical or additional need, can you consider this?

Yes, we can. We advise that you contact the university AccessAbility team at accessable@le.ac.uk. They will be able to discuss all your requirements with you and liaise with your department and the accommodation team on your behalf. You may also add a note to your application online to make us aware that we should be expecting to hear from AccessAbility before allocating a room.

When will I need to pay my fees?

The details of your fees and your payment deadlines will be included in your contract. Generally, the first deadlines will be just after the beginning of the term, so that these coincide with you receiving student finance payments.

 

What is a twin room?

A twin bedroom will include facilities for two residents to reside in the room at the same time. This is particularly popular with those expecting a more American College style experience or those looking to save a lot of money on their accommodation.

Remember, twin rooms are strictly single-sex only.

 

Do you offer rooms to couples or families?

Unfortunately, all the rooms that we offer are single residence only and we do not cater to couples or families.

 

What do I need to know about the arrivals process?

You will be able to book and arrival slot and get all your arrival information once you've completed your Online Accommodation Welcome. Please ensure you arrive during arrival slot in order to ensure a smoother process on the day. You can find out more about the arrivals process by looking at What to Expect When You Arrive.

 

What is my student ID number?

Your student ID number is a unique 9-digit number that will have been provided for you via email upon making your application to study at the university. It will be labelled as a University of Leicester Student ID number, and will typically be formatted as 199XXXXXX (for 2019/20 applicants).

 

What room will I be in?

After making an application, you will receive an offer for the best room that we have available for you. This room offer will only show a location and room type though and will not state a room or flat number. This is because these frequently change last minute to accommodate additional requirements.

You will find out the exact room number upon arriving and collecting your keys.

 

Can I bring a TV?

You can bring a TV with you to your accommodation, but you will not be covered by a TV license;. If you wish to watch live TV or use online services such as BBC iPlayer you will need to purchase a TV license for the duration of your stay. Can I request to live with a friend?

If you have a friend coming into halls at the same time and would like to be allocated in the same flat, this is possible. When filling out your application, there will be a space for ‘Notes’ at the end where you can list any additional requirements/preferences. You and your friend must both request to be allocated with each other, as we will need mutual consent from both to take this into account. Make sure you include your friend's full name and student ID number.

 

My accommodation offer has been withdrawn, what should I do?

If your offer has been withdrawn and you would still like to accept this offer, get in touch with the Accommodation team as soon as possible. Depending on availability of the room type and how soon you get in touch, it may be possible to reinstate this offer. Otherwise you may be requested to submit a new application.

 

What should I bring?

Remember though, this list can always be expanded or reduced depending on your own preferences. Use it as a guide and a reminder of what to bring.

 

How do I complete my online induction?

Log in to your accommodation account using the email and password you supplied when you set up your account.

Once you have logged in, click the link next to ‘Induction’. Then on the following page, click ‘Start’.

To complete the Accommodation Welcome, you must go through all the compulsory information.

Once you have finished, your account will be updated and next to the Induction section on your login page will be a tick and it will say ‘Completed’. You will now be able to proceed and book your arrival slot.
