Keeping you safe and secure

The University’s Security and Residence Life teams work closely with the local police to ensure that residences are patrolled appropriately. Leicester is a safe place to live, but crime does occasionally happen. It is essential to take responsibility for your belongings. Simple steps such as locking your room, front door and windows are vital. A basic level of insurance is provided with your room however we strongly recommend checking the policy and considering additional insurance for valuables, expensive gadgets and bicycles.

Always be alert for strangers and do not give criminals an easy opportunity. Please contact University Security Services if you see anything suspicious.

Stay Safe at the University of Leicester

As part of your welcome to the University of Leicester it is recommended that you download and use SafeZone, a free location-based App for Smartphones that makes it easy for you to get help or request assistance any time you are on campus.

It works 24/7 and will connect you directly with our Security team if you need Help, First Aid or if you have an Emergency. We'll also be able to send you campus alerts and you can turn on tracking if you're working alone or walking home late at night. Note that SafeZone only shares your location with security when you ask for help or check-in for working alone, it does not track you at any other times, so your privacy is always respected.

You will be given instructions for signing up to SafeZone when you arrive in halls or you can sign up using the instructions at

You can find out more about SafeZone on their FAQs page
