Altmetrics: Tracking engagement beyond citations

This session is for PhD students and researchers wanting to discover kind of attention academic research can have in places beyond academic citations. Altmetrics are a growing phenomenon in the world of academic publishing. Acknowledgements from sources including news and social media, policy and patents, videos, Wikipedia and teaching syllabi can help identify where potential research impact has occurred and/or the citation potential of early career research. This session will demonstrate the Altmetric Explorer tool, which offers a way to discover and analyse attention online, telling a story of research beyond the publication. By the end of this session you will: Have an understanding of what ‘altmetrics’ are Learn about how they can benefit PhD and early career researchers Explore the Altmetric Explorer tool to identify potential research impact, funding and collaborators.
