Learn to Program via Python

This course will introduce you to how programming works, the basic concepts and how to write your first script. Learning how to program can help you to speed up your research by automating simple repetitive tasks so you don’t have to do them by hand. This course will teach you the basics of how to do this using the easy to learn, yet powerful, programming language Python.

Python is a general programming language used in many fields which is is easy to learn, yet powerful. Researchers commonly use it for everything from day-to-day scripting to full-blown applications.  Because of its popularity, many people have taken the time to solve most of the problems you’re likely to encounter in using python in your research, and have made the solutions available to the public.

We’ll see how to program in Python, and make use of the 3-4 core scientific libraries other people have created to accelerate our own work.
