Basic Stats Course

This course introduces students to statistical concepts and analysis. It starts by looking at how we differentiate between different types of numbers, and their uses, and how this relates to decision-making about statistical analysis. It covers basic univariate and bivariate analysis, as well as introducing students to idea of statistical models. The course focuses on descriptive statistics but makes links between data analysis and the collection and generation of data, as well as looking at principles of good data display. It presumes no prior knowledge apart from basic arithmetic skills. It can serve as a stand-alone course for those wishing to understand and conduct basic analyses, or as a first step towards using more advanced techniques. The SPSS software package will be used in all demonstrations and supporting YouTube video tutorial are provided to support students' software use.
