The theme of September’s ‘Innovation Friday’ will be: funding for research and innovation projects. In addition to the usual networking opportunities, there will be information sessions focussing on four specific sources of funding equally of interest to companies looking to de-risk and subsidise innovation projects as to academics looking to translate their research into social and economic impact.

10am – Innovation Friday begins at the Leicester Innovation Hub.

10:30am – ESRC Impact Acceleration Account – with Dr Andrew Morden
The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has awarded the University of Leicester £1 million of funding to facilitate knowledge exchange and engagement activities between Social Science researchers and external organisations. This funding will be of interest to researchers and external organisations (including small to medium enterprises (SMEs), large corporates, charities, social enterprises, public sector, local authorities & government organisations) who are looking to develop mutually beneficial collaborations and strategic partnerships.

11:30am – Extra £25M funding for 'management' Knowledge Transfer Partnerships – with Kamran Hussein
A session to help you get your slice of £25M which has recently been allocated to the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) funding scheme to ‘deliver improvements on business productivity’ for companies that are operating below optimal productivity levels. If you have an idea for your business but do not have all the in-house expertise needed to develop it, a KTP may be the answer. It creates a dynamic three-way collaboration – between a business or not for profit organisation, a UK university and a suitably qualified graduate – to help realise a strategic innovation project, bring about transformative change and embed new capability.

1:30pm – SPRINT - funding and academic support for space related SME projects – with Dr Stephen Wright
SPRINT is the SPace Research and Innovation Network for Technology, a unique partnership of top UK space universities, industry, government agencies and the investment community dedicated to supporting the growth of SMEs. SPRINT funds collaborative projects between a company and a university partner to exploit space technologies and data in a wide range of commercial activities including:

- Space products / technologies to the space sector
- Space technologies and data deployed in non-space markets and applications
- Commercial-off-the-shelf and non-space technologies deployed in space markets

Funding support is available to SMEs from all sectors to realise new innovations.

2:30pm – The Midlands Innovation Commercialisation of Research Accelerator (MICRA) - with Dr Sarah Britton
The Midlands Innovation Commercialisation of Research Accelerator (MICRA), brings together the innovations and capabilities of the eight Midlands Innovation universities, in what is the largest formal collaboration between technology transfer offices in the UK. Working with business to translate cutting-edge research and innovation into real-world applications is at the centre of MICRA’s enterprise mission. Through schemes such as the MICRA Post Scientific Proof of Concept Development Grant Award, the MICRA consortium aims to de-risk activity that has been identified as having breakthrough commercial potential. In line with MICRA's goal of increasing the speed at which innovations reach the market, categories of projects funded under this grant scheme include:

- Technical development activities
- Industrial trial activities
- Market validation activities

4pm - Close.
