Conductor: Michael Sackin

MENDELSSOHN: Overture: Die schöne Melusine Op.32
BRUCH: Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor Op.26 (soloist Eleanor Wilkinson, violin)
LEÓ WEINER: Serenade in F minor for Small Orchestra Op.3
SONJA GROSSNER: Humoresque (version for chamber orchestra)
HAYDN: Symphony No.70 in D major

This is a concert of delightful Classical and Romantic masterpieces, plus a short, quite light, work by a member of the orchestra who is a prolific composer. We welcome back Eleanor Wilkinson who has given memorable performances of various violin concertos in recent years with the Sinfonia. This time she plays Bruch’s G minor Concerto, a perennial favourite. An extremely appealing rarity will be the Serenade for Small Orchestra by the Hungarian composer Leó Weiner, and the concert ends with a wonderful, out-of-the-way Haydn symphony. The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s charming overture: The Fair Melusine.
