Our afternoon of events celebrating Adrian Mole and the work of Sue Townsend kicks off with a discussion of her work for stage and screen, with her close collaborators Carole Hayman and Janette Legge.

Join writer, actor and director Carole Hayman and actor Janette Legge for reflections and reminiscences on Sue Townsend’s contribution to British Theatre and television. Carole and Janette will speak about their work on the plays Bazaar and Rummage and The Great Celestial Cow, and the television series The Refuge.

Carole Hayman was a founder member and first woman director of the Joint Stock Theatre Company, and is a former Associate Director of the Royal Court Theatre. She has written for TV, film, and radio and is the author of several novels including the Warfleet Chronicles trilogy. She is well known as co-writer of the hit Radio 4 series Ladies of Letters.

During her acting career Janette Legge has worked in many theatre companies associated with production of work by new writers including The Bush Theatre, Soho Poly, Joint Stock, and The Royal Court Theatre. In 1982 she played in the original Royal Court production of Sue Townsend's, Bazaar and Rummage and subsequently appeared in the television series The Refuge, written by Sue Townsend and Carole Hayman.
