Abstract

The presentation discusses the meaning of moral economy in neoliberal capitalist societies and presents an empirical study of the two-faced, moral economy of consumer microfinance (i.e., online lending to the poor as popularized form of philanthrocapitalism), and comments on the evolution of moral rhetoric surrounding the microfinance industry.
