Dr McAlister studied Environmental Biology at Manchester University followed by a doctorate in Ecological Entomology at Surrey University. She is Collections Manager for Diptera (flies), Siphonaptera (fleas), Arachnida (spiders), and Myriapoda (centipedes and millipedes). She has published widely on the dipteran vectors of disease, especially malaria, on soil ecology and crop pollinators. She has given talks for the BBC and Royal Society among many others. She is committed to involving the public in natural history and the Natural History Museum.
