The lecture, which is free and open to the public, has been supported by a donation from Santander Universities UK, an initiative which supports higher education around the world.

Jonathan Coe is the author of ten novels, including What a Carve Up!, The House of Sleep and The Rain Before it Falls. His novel The Rotters’ Club was adapted as a television drama series for the BBC, and in 2005 he won the Samuel Johnson Prize—the most prestigious non-fiction award in the UK—for Like a Fiery Elephant, a biography of experimental novelist B.S. Johnson.

His work brings attention to creative writing from an international perspective. He has a wide readership globally and his books are published everywhere from Brazil to Italy, Romania to Russia, and been translated in more than twenty languages.
