Want to find out more about Bugs, Genetics and Sleep? Come to our FREE, PUBLIC Outreach Day. Students from the Department of Genetics will be happy to talk you through their research topics and introduce you to the world of Insects, Genetics & Biological time.

Some activities available on the day:

1) SPOT THE MUTANT

Have a closer look at normal fruit flies. Can you tell a female from a male? Now observe our mutant flies. Can you spot the mutation? Finally, learn about flies that look the same, but behave differently

2) BUGS vs HUMANS

Hear why we study insects. Be ready to be surprised at how similar humans are to flies

3) LOCUSTS and ANTS

Have a look at these insects and find out what we can learn from them

4) BEES

See the inside of a bee colony and watch the bees foraging on artificial flowers

5) DO FLIES SLEEP?

Compare the fly 24 hour biological clock to the human one

6) LARK OR OWL?

Take our test to find out if your biological clock makes you more like a Lark or an Owl. Compare your score with that of 50,000 other individuals who have taken part in this research project.
