Eva Organization for Women (EOW) is pleased to announce that it’s upcoming Youth Conference “#Brighter Future”, is to be held in collaboration with the University of Leicester on the 7th of June 2014 at the University campus.

This conference targets students aged 16+ from diverse backgrounds encouraging them to engage and have a say about their future prospects and seeking to increase awareness of the social determinates that may impact young people’s futures by encouraging, supporting and inspiring our youth in self-help and growth as individuals and as leaders in their own communities. Additionally the conference aims to tackle the problem of poor expectations and a lack of encouragement that some young people have experienced.

  • To reach out to the youth, who are our future, so that they can be empowered individuals.
  • Instead of talking at them, create a platform where they can be active creators by taking part in this conference and networking between each other and with other agencies.
  • To ensure they make better choices for themselves and their future families.
  • To give them the opportunities to discuss and listen to topics which the older generations/certain ethnic groups do not necessarily have access to.
  • To ensure young people learn about common values such as respect/manners and accepting the norms of the modern day society.
  • To encourage them to aim high and make a difference in our communities.

Workshops will include: building a mindset for success, leadership skills, developing entrepreneurship skills and an introduction into the art and entertainment industry. For those already contributing to their local community we will also be distributing Youth Achievement Awards to young people that already working for the betterment of others.

There are three award categories to nominate young people for; business & enterprise achievement, community achievement and breakthrough.

  • For the business & enterprise award we are looking for individuals working towards starting up their own business or who have successfully started up their own businesses.
  • For the community achievement award we are looking for individuals who give their time to volunteer or go out of their way to help others.
  • For the breakthrough award we need nominations for individuals who have succeeded either in education or work despite difficult personal circumstances (such as illness
or caring for a loved one).

If you think you know someone who deserves one of these awards why not nominate them? Simply email their details to us at brighterfuture@evaorganizationforwomen.org along with why you feel they deserve an award. The closing date is Saturday 31st May 2014. Winners will be named at our Youth Conference at University of Leicester on 7th June 2014. The winner for each category will receive a trophy and other prizes.

This is a great opportunity for the youth of Leicester and Leicestershire to come together to learn, have their say and enjoy themselves at the same time. Entertainment & refreshments along with street art display and job fair will be available on the day of the conference.
