The current economic crisis challenged the notion of what happiness means and how it can be achieved. This change in the point of view is consistent with the long known paradox of satisfaction: while richer people are happier than poorer, over time their happiness does not increase congruently with the rise of their income. The same can be observed for richer and poorer countries all over the world.

In this Lunchtime Lecture, Katarzyna Kucaba, a postgraduate researcher from the Department of Sociology will talk about the trends, changes and variation in life satisfaction in Europe over time and will focus especially on the impact of the current economic crisis on the happiness of European nations.

The Lunchtime Lecture series takes place Fridays, 12-1pm at the Leicester Adult Education College, located at 2 Wellington St, near the city end of New Walk. The lectures are delivered by current University of Leicester postgraduates and are open to the public, so there is no need to book, just come along on the day.
