The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Glenfield Hospital is one of the largest specialised centres in the United Kingdom. Gavin Murphy, BHF Professor of Cardiac Surgery, is leading a prestigious research programme that consolidates basic science and clinical trials in order to improve the management of cardiac surgery patients.

The research is funded by the British Heart Foundation and focusses on the prevention of post- operative complications that can affect other organs, especially the kidneys. Using detailed footage of open heart surgery, Professor Murphy will talk the audience through how the research may lead to the development of new methods for diagnosing and treating these complications.

Professor Gavin Murphy will give this seminar on 16 October from 6pm at the Lecture Theatre, Education Centre, Leicester General Hospital.
