As we approach 2014, marking the hundredth anniversary of the start of the First World War, its popularity as a subject for literature shows no signs of diminishing. In this lunchtime lecture, School of English PhD student Angela Thurstance will consider the continuing popularity of the First World War as a subject for fiction. She will explore how contemporary fiction provides us with new ways of looking back at this period of history whilst at the same time reflecting more current concerns. The Lunchtime Lecture series takes place Fridays, 12-1pm at the Leicester Adult Education College, located at 2 Wellington St, near the city end of New Walk. The lectures are delivered by current University of Leicester postgraduates and are open to the public, so there is no need to book, just come along on the day.
