In the commercial property market, listed buildings yield better returns for their investors. That finding, from Colliers International, should not surprise us. People like historic places, and it shows in the balance sheet.

‘Constructive conservation’ is about using that inherent value to help a scheme stack up commercially. One success can be a catalyst for wider regeneration, particularly where property values have fallen. That’s the kind of conservation our towns and cities need. It’s an approach that’s about partnership, shared discovery and dialogue rather
than mere regulation, and it benefits everyone – even the wider public.

This event will be an opportunity for developers, public bodies and property managers to help make constructive conservation ‘industry standard’ in the East Midlands property market.

Objectives:

· To identify the challenges and opportunities of repair and re-use of historic buildings
· To explore how a collaborative, constructive approach to conservation can help facilitate such developments
· To demonstrate the benefits of a high standard of design and detail in projects affecting historic buildings
