Our Students' Union 15th best in the country, according to current students and graduates who have rated their own unions this year.

The top 20 Student Unions in the UK have been revealed after over 7,000 current students and graduates cast their votes on University Review Website StudentCrowd.

Commenting on Leicester University Student Union's success, StudentCrowd said: "Another East Midlands university to make this list, University of Leicester Students' Union is the only UK university with an O2 Academy. So if music gigs are your thing, Leicester may be for you as there no end to the big names that have played there in recent years from Chase & Status, Primal Scream and Bastille to The Cribs, Blossoms and Professor Green. It's not all about the music and nightlife at Leicester however, as an active and inclusive Union with a powerful student-led voice, you can also get involved with over 250 student groups, volunteering, training, sport, a free confidential Advice Service that provides academic and housing support and much more.”

Over the past year, 7,849 students have rated their own Student Union experience on StudentCrowd.

StudentCrowd Director Paul Humphries said: “The 2018 Best Student Union Awards were designed to showcase the very best in class when it comes to Student Unions. As opposed to other 'Best Of' lists like this, our awards are based completely off thousands of reviews from students themselves. Not only is this a great recognition of the Union’s included, it also acts as a resource for students looking to learn more about the environment of the uni they are looking to attend. After all, choosing your university is one of the biggest decisions you have to make at that point in your life!"

Leicester University Students’ Union is based in the Percy Gee Building, which is currently undergoing an ambitious £21 million transformation. A new four-storey extension will provide a brand new glazed façade to the building, which will front onto the newly completed Fielding Johnson Square. This glazed façade provides a much more welcoming approach to the building, especially when lit up after dark. The extension will house facilities including a large, brand-new food court; double the amount of space for social learning; and a new informatics lab for the study of information science.
