Family Programme Parents’ Receptions: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September 2014

The University is extending its traditional warm welcome to parents, relatives and friends of new students this weekend, to offer helpful information and reassurance about the place where their sons and daughters are about to start student life.

The receptions are held as part of the University’s Family Programme, which gives students’ families a chance to share in the life of the University without intruding on their children’s freedom.

Heading off to university for the first time is a transitional period for students and their parents, and it can be quite daunting. Director of Development Steve O’Connor emphasises how the University is committed to ensuring that parents and guardians of new students not only have access to important support and information but can also choose from a variety of opportunities to become involved in the University themselves, from social events and public lectures to taking up postgraduate or distance learning courses.

There will be welcome presentations from Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Access, Recruitment and Transition) and Head of the College of Arts, Humanities and Law Professor Mark Peel; Head of the Student Support Service, Gill Miles and Director of Development, Steve O’Connor.

The University receptions for parents of new students will take place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September 2014. The series of half-hour receptions start at 2pm and run until 4.30pm on each day, offering tea and biscuits as well as reassurance and support.
