A student currently studying in our Vaughan Centre for Lifelong Learning has reached the final of national housing award.

Jo Miller is one of the final five in the prestigious 24housing Young Leader Award after creating a thriving project that has engaged two housing associations and over 60 volunteers.

The Volunteer Coordinator at Daventry & District Housing (DDH) is currently studying for a Managing Volunteering and Community Organisation degree at the University.

Jo was previously selected as one of 20 shortlisted candidates after almost 100 entries were collected. Following the result of an online vote that polled over 8,000 responses in just two weeks, Jo was named as one of 10 semi-finalists.

This saw her participate in a roundtable debate at the National Housing Federation’s head office in London on 17 July. The theme of the debate was the Housing Crisis and Jo produced an infographic detailing a concept that proposed the empowerment of volunteers as a way of tackling the crisis.

Jo will now take part in the grand final taking place at the National Housing Federation’s annual conference in Birmingham on Thursday 18 September, while the overall winner will be named at the Young Leaders Experience Conference in Warwick on 8 October.
