An innovative project to record sound and visualise birdsong by Lucy Stevens at Embrace Arts has been awarded funding from Arts Council England’s National Lottery-funded Grants.

She will work in collaboration with tabla player Rishii Chowdhury to fuse field recordings, musical improvisation, printmaking and drawing techniques. The project will develop a series of new print and sound artworks representing pitch, repetition and duration of bird vocalisation.

As part of the project Stevens and Chowdhury will receive mentoring and training from artist Lyndall Phelps, bird expert, and field recordist Geoff Sample, musician Roopa Panesar and audio-visual consultant Terry Forryan. A short film created by filmmaker Bill Newsinger will document the process of the project and reveal the various stages of creating the work.

Visitors can view the exhibition and the film, free of charge, from 8.30am - 5pm Monday – Friday between Wednesday 15 October – Friday 12 December at LCB Depot, 31 Rutland Street, Leicester LE1 1RE.

See here for more information about the project.
