Former student's book was brought to publication by Sir Terry Pratchett

Politics graduate Alexander Maskill has just seen his first book, The Hive Construct, published this week.

As reported here last year, he has already received a prestigious award for his novel, courtesy of Sir Terry Pratchett’s "Anywhere but Here, Anywhen but Now First Novel Prize". His prize was a £20,000 publishing contract for this debut novel.

Dubbed ‘unique and original’ by Sir Terry, The Hive Construct is a compelling story which takes the reader to New Cairo, a city built on technology threatened by a powerful new computer virus. The narrative follows Zala Ulora, a criminal and gifted hacker, who must trace the virus to his source before the city is destroyed.

The Hive Construct by Alexander Maskill is published by Random House. You can order a copy of the book by contacting the University Bookshop.
