University launches new toxicity test technology

COMPAC-50 high throughput comet assay kit

Technology developed by the University to test drugs and cosmetics for the damage they do to our DNA has been launched commercially.

Researchers from our Department of Cancer Studies and Molecular Medicine have teamed up with Cleaver Scientific Ltd. for the development and commercialisation of high throughput systems for performing the Comet Assay - a sensitive and reliable technique for the detection of DNA damage in individual cells.

This new technology allows for testing of drugs and cosmetics that could pose a threat to human and health and provides a way of reducing reliance on animal testing.
