Two University students have been offered a place in the BUCS Deloitte Leadership academy, where they will develop skills suitable for both sports management and future employment.

Daniel Shackleford, President of the Ski and Snowboard Club and Olivia Leafe, Captain of Women’s Football will be heading to Herefordshire on 20 – 21 November. They are two of 96 applicants who entered, of which only 21 were selected.

The students first applied to the course in order to increase their skills for the benefit of their clubs and learn transferrable skills for future ambitions.

Daniel said: “I’m incredibly excited to embark on an unexplored path of self-improvement, learn new things and make new friends along the way.”

Olivia added: “I'm really excited to be going on the course and am looking forward to what will be an interesting and enjoyable couple of days.”

The course includes practical techniques adapted from the military to cover teamwork, transferrable leadership skills from sport, task management, persuasive communication and negotiation, understanding performance and the importance of networking.

Both students will attend lectures run by Olympic gold medallists, will engage in outdoor physical activities and will spend the night in a yurt.
