University of Leicester’s Literary festival between 12-15 November

Part of this year’s Literary Leicester festival will be dedicated to the Adrian Mole creator and much-loved Leicester author Sue Townsend, who passed away earlier this year.

A discussion on Saturday 15 November at 7:30pm celebrating her life will be hosted by another local author and children’s writer Bali Rai, who has penned numerous books for young readers, and who regards Sue as an inspiration and a friend.

He will be at the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre, in the Fielding Johnson Building South Wing, on Saturday 15 November, where he will be joined by Sue’s long-time illustrator and friend Caroline Holden. Bali will also be joined by celebrated Leicester-born singer-songwriter, poet and author Carol Leeming, who was Sue’s friend and mentee as well.

On the same day, there is also a fringe event titled Discover Sue Townsend – The Archives, which invites visitors to the University’s David Wilson Library from 4.00 – 5.00pm to view an archive of work related to the Adrian Mole author.

The event is free but to guarantee yourself a seat, please do book a ticket at the festival website. Otherwise, just turn up but do be aware that those with tickets will be given priority.
